Do your research on the dog breeds that interest you to see if they are right for your lifestyle.

When I got my Papillon mix from the shelter, I chose him because we "clicked". I just knew, whether it was Divine intervention or whatnot, that he was the right one for me. And he's perfect for me. Energetic, yet laid back. Intelligent. We share some personality traits, too. My perfect match.

Dieta

You ask questions about the breed or dog you are looking at
If you are not that active you want to pick a breed that is more laid back. All pups are very energentic through out puppy hood. They are into everything.
You want to make sure also you are financially able to get the puppy into the vet for all the shots, exams, testing and then the other. That would be food, toys, training, crate, supplies, and time.

Roscoe

i personally like strong breed dogs and went to the shelter looking for a larger dog, who has energy, but is good with my daughter (who came with me). it is important to make sure you have your whole family (living with you) when you go to find your perfect friend. also looking up breed temperaments is a good way to find the right breed for you. Good luck finding your perfect pup!!!!

Jack

Sometimes they choose you.

When we were looking for a dog four years ago, we were looking for a shorthaired, older dog, probably lab size or larger.

We found Jack at the shelter; he was a puppy that weighed 11 lbs and had long, scraggly hair.

But we instantly fell for him and I swear, even though some people might find it silly, I know in my heart that he knew we were going to take him home. The day we went back to fill out the paperwork at the shelter, he sat on my husband's foot like he was claiming him or something. He never looked back as we drove away with him in the car. He bonded to us literally on the WAY HOME.

When it's meant to be, sometimes you just know it. :-)
