How much fur should I leave on Jasper when I get his hair cut? Answers at Dogster Answers.

I love having fur on him, and I know it keeps them warm/cold depending on the weather but I also don't want to have him get all knotted.
He is a yorkie/maltese cross and I brush him every day (or every second day) and I've noticed recently he is still getting very matted so I wanted to cut his hair just to a length where it wont get as matted as fast.
Any suggestions?

Purchase a quality de-matting brush to use that for your daily (or every other day) brushing, and leave the fur alone otherwise.

Yes, its advised not to shave your dog ever, but its fine to have it cut short, leaving and inch or so but no less to protect his skin from sunburn, heat or cold.
A lot of people with long haired dogs get them a short haircut so they don't have to deal with the grooming everyday. Which is fine, just be sure to leave enough hair on and not shaved to the skin.

Maybe you should cut about 1 in off. He would stll have fur but he wouldn't get that matted.
