I just moved into a nicer larger apartment recently and I have two small resuced dogs and my one pug mix now does this high pictched whine/cry sometimes when I leave her in the car to go run into the store real fast or when I leave for work almost everyday. I believe she stops after sometime. I have had her for almost a year and half. I walk them both in the morning and evening and they have toys, beds, food and water at all times. Any ideas or suggestions for me I just don't want my neighbors to start to complain.
Sounds like Separation Anxiety. Your pug probably thinks you're going to leave them in the apartment (since it's not their usual 'home') and never come back. Poor little guys!
One weekend, you should spend some time addressing this. Hang out with them, then put them in their crates (are they crated?) and act like you're going to leave. Be very convincing... dogs will realize it if you don't have your wallet/purse, car keys, etc.
Leave for just a minute or two, then come right back in, and let them out (wait until they stop whining, if they whine still). Be all happy and give them treats. Hang out for a little while longer, then repeat, this time with a longer interval.
It'll take a while for them to realize you ARE coming back, but they will learn!
