How do I avoid confronts between my dog and the bird?

My sister's friend lefted us with a green parrot. We cannot contact her to have the bird back - we will only get rid of it in 10 days! the fact is that neither the bird neither the dog stand each other. Ashley the Whippet, my Greyhound, will be agressive thowards the parrot, who is agressive, too. We cannot separate them, they always go and meet. She finds a way to stand up and be face-to-face with the cage. I have caught her mouthing the parrot several times. She is not bird friendly - neither is the parot. He once bit her near the eye. She was lucky not to be blinded. This two are really tearing my nerves. Is there a way to control this situation???

I think the safest thing to do would be to cage the bird and keep it out of Ashley's reach. I would keep the bird in a separate room when I am unable to supervise them closely. Parrots can bite very hard and can injure your dog. The dog could kill the parrot. You don't want either one of those things to happen. There is training you could do, but I doubt that is worth it if you only have the bird for 10 days.

Let the dog get the bird, or keep the bird caged. When you got your dog, or puppy, it was a life-time committment to the dog to keep it safe and healthy, as well as happy, for the rest of it's life. That is the contract your emotions had at the time of purchase or adoption. If this bird is attacking the dog, either get rid of the bird or let the dog show the truth to the bird about food chains. KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE!

Dieta

Best to keep the bird locked up.
I had a dog that got ahold of the birds, was not a pretty sight.
Also a turtle and a rabbit, not a pretty sight also.
Be careful the dog views them as prey.
good luck.

Birds and sight hounds, not a very good combination. Birds are nice prey for my salukis, i dont know how many dead ones i have to pick up that they catch each year. I agree to put the bird in a crate and keep it in a room with the door shut if you can at all
