Serious answers only please! Thank You.
I have a 3 year old female Australian Shepherd,I had searched and searched for a suitable male to breed with her and finally ended up just purchasing one. He is also 3 years old and is of champion bloodlines ect...ect... Anyway, I put them together and he sniffs her and licks her but won't do anything else.
She is hyper and energetic, while he is calm and lazy.
I have not seen him even attempt to breed her.
So I thought maybe he breed her while I wasn't looking. Tell me, is there a way to tell if they've breed at this time? Or do I really have to wait a few weeks until I know for sure? I really need to know. Any advice would be helpful.

Okay, okay, whatever. For your information I have researched about this stuff for over a year and a half. She IS in heat otherwise I would not have even asked this freaking question. She is at the "peak" of her heat. So there! if you have more to say then go ahead. IDC.
If you researched that much, then you'd know how ot tell if they have *BRED*
And if you researched that much you'd know that just because two dogs have papers does not mean they should breed, and you'd have health testing done on both of them (OFA and all that), and they'd be conformation champions.

I agree with CH ChekrdFlags Vegas GoGo Girl.
I doubt you did the proper research, the proper CHECKS, the proper testing on your dog and the male dog...such a pity..

Hmm, nasty attitudes provoke nasty attitudes, guest. Be careful, you're treading on dangerous ground.
We are here to help. The info we give is to do what's best for the breed. You may have researched, but apparently not enough, because if you had, you wouldn't have had to ask. And if you have to ask, you are not ready to breed. I know that seems...hmm, what's the word, funny (for lack of better word), but it's the truth.
I recommend that you find a reputable and experienced mentor, not one that you can talk to over the internet. One whose house you can go to, to learn.
S/he can help you out and show you how it's done. A mentor is a must, in my book.

Guest, there are 3,454 Australian Shepherds up for adoption on Petfinder.com. I am curious to know why you think it is a good idea to breed your dogs when there are homeless dogs being killed everyday for lack of space and homes.

Guest,
I am deeply sorry about the replies you have been gettting. Not to say this in a mean way, only for your protection, but never tell people that you are breeding your dogs, unless you are a licensed breeder. Dog lovers today are mad crazy about dog populations sky rocketing!!!
You just have to be careful with who you talk with. Dog lovers all over are coming up with petitions for backyard dog breeders to have a license to breed. And that the breeder can only have one liter.
Please, please be careful!
As far as your female dog goes, wait awhile. Her nibbles will begin to look swollen and heavy, also when she walks, they will sometimes smack each other. Also, check her stomach, rub it and kind of press on it gently. Feel around.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Well yes it is bad just to breed cause you like to have a dog from yours.
But, if so then wait til the dog you have is older and you have all the other stuff in check.
The registerations, the ofa is approved for both hips and elbows.
No one wants more dogs in the world to end up in hands of bad people or shelters.
But if everything is in order. A dog is two weeks coming in and going out.
The male is not interested because she is not ready. He smells that. She will not be fully ovulated and ready right at first. And yes, people are right not all the checks are in order cause you should know when to breed her. A male dog doesn't care if you are watching or not. They are not like us.
I don't know if you herd them or do obedience competitions , 4-h, or fly ball. But, sounds like whatever you are doing you are trying to get more pet like pups, he is lazy.? Or do you want a dog like yours? for actually purpose-competition or 4-h?
I researched breeding for the last 20 years/farm raise
