How can I get my puppy wear a topknot?

I have a 4-month old shihtzu/maltese. Whenever I try to tie his hair he would lie down on his back. Sometimes he would squirm or roll. I want him to get used to have a topknot. help!

It takes patience, mostly. But a good trick that may help is to put him in your lap and hold his head with one arm.

OMD, he is adorable. I have never owned a dog that required a top knot but I assume it takes patience on your part to get him used to such a thing.
I would probably just start out playing with his hair on top of his head and treating when he allowed it. Then when he gets used to it, try using a comb, again treating. Sometimes baby steps work best.
I certainly wouldn't get frustrated if your dog refuses, simply try again some other time.
Have a good one.

4 mos? he is still a puppy ... patience! later on, say in a mo. or 2, as hair grows, try to use a little "gel" on top of brow & part a triangle; use a child's pony tail/clip - don't be discouraged; it takes time; some people "clip" the hair off eyes because they don't have time or care to do the top knot; u wil succeed & by the way, HE is a precious lookin' pup! Congratulations!

Patience! It took me forever to get my shih tzu to wear the top knot.

Pick a spot and start grooming her in that spot every day or two. She will begin to understand that is the grooming spot and will learn to sit still.

At 4 when I put my girl on the bathroom sink she sits quietly and lets me put in her top knot or brush her or anything else I may need to do.

Remember, your puppy is a baby! Patience is the name of the game.
