Best I can recommend is picking up the socks and keeping them out of his reach.

Stop leaving socks where he can get them. Problem solved. You wouldn't leave poison out and expect to teach him not to eat it AFTER the fact, the same applies here. Its your responsibility.

Like the others have said....PICK THE SOCKS UP!!!!! If you know this is a problem, why chance an obstruction and possible death when you could simply PICK THE SOCKS UP. The best advice I can give you is, PICK THE SOCKS UP.

Some dogs just seem to find things they can't eat. Say the socks were in a laundry basket he pulls over. Sometimes it is just not that easy. If he seems to do that, get some Bitter Apple Spray and put it on the socks, then let him figure out they don't taste so good anymore.

Keep him away from the socks, give him something else to chew when he does take the socks. If he won't let you take the socks away from him, you have bigger problems that soggy, holey socks and need some obedience training. Teach the "leave it" command - if he's eating socks, he'll eat more dangerous things, too and you'll need this command to save his life.

The easiest way to prevent your dog from eating socks and other items is to put things away, and not leave them laying out. Your dog should also be supervised when he is loose in the house - ideally, he should be in the same room as you are - and should be safely contained in a crate, a closed-off room, or a kennel run when he cannot be supervised by anyone.

You can also train a sock not to bother your belongings or try to eat them. In order to do this, you have to supervise your dog. If you see him go for a sock, correct him using the LEAVE IT! command while clapping your hands to get his attention. Then give him a toy he's allowed to chew on. Praise him for chewing on the toy.

Repeat as necessary, but contain the dog (or remove the socks) when you cannot be around to supervise, as your dog may still do it if you're not home to correct him.

Ace

Pick up the socks. Along with that, there is a book that can tell you what can harm your dog. You can download it here. Good luck.
