Bella gave you a very good answer. A dog's coat acts as insulation, and it does this by trapping air between the layers of hair, regulating the temperature at the skin level. Since dogs do not sweat through their skin like people do, having this fur actually protects them from the hot weather, rather than making them overly hot and uncomfortable. What you will want to do is keep Roxy well groomed - the coat can only function properly if there is no dirt, tangles, or mats keeping it from playing its part. If you are worried about her overheating, you can wet down the belly, chest, and inside of the legs. This is where major arteries run through and will transport the cooler blood throughout her body when you cool those areas. And, of course, get her used to the warmer temperatures - it's much easier for a dog to adjust gradually than go from an air-conditioned house out in the heat and back.

Pomeranians who have their coat shaved are at risk of heat stroke and seizures as a result. As humans we shed layers when we get warm. However, the poms coat is nice in that it keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. You can trim around the private area (to keep feces from getting stuck) But a shave would be bad unless your dog is very badly matted.

Deogie does just fine in the summer. His coat actually keeps him cooler, most people don't get that. I hear, "aaahhh he must feel terrible with all that fur", you try and explain it to them and they look at you like your totally off your rocker. Roxy will be just fine with her gorgeous fur.

No, if she is doing well and has no skin problems then I would not do any puppy cuts or shaving. Just do the pom cut with potty path... The short cut won't make her too much cooler... They cool off from the paws or mouth. Need more help ? Contact me by my paw mail...I would be glad to help you.
