Dogs are very intuitive creatures. They know.

Because dogs are very keen on other creatures physiology and differences in it, they can usually sense that at least something is up. Thats why some dogs are able to detect seizures and some are used to check for cancer. The changes that a person's body might go through before they die may give the dog a reason to check up on them or whine constantly.

Echo

Yes ! Dogs and cats both are extremely smart creatures and they pick up on things like that. Shiloh knew something was wrong and just wanted to let Grandma know that everyone including her were there for her !

This isn't really the same. But Like when I am having a horrible day and I'm at the verge of breaking down in tears. My dog Echo, always curls right up next to me..and keeps looking at me..than she will go away for a few minutes and come back and do the same thing.

Dieta

yes, they can.
My dog I swear has this physic thing going on.
She will start jumping up and barking madly minutes before my daughter comes home. She doesn't come home at the same time, so it is crazy for me to think this dog can know. But, she does.
Because I sit and watch the clock, and yep, here comes the daughter. I don't know how she knows. It is a mystery.

I am surprised she didn't lay on her or lay in the bed with her.
Sometimes they will do that too.
I once was bed riden with Pnenmonia and my boston laid in bed with me for 3 months, he only got down to go potty outside and back he was right beside my leg the whole time day and night. And he is not a lap dog, he hates being on my lap
I am happy he was there for me.

Yes, dogs know when your sick, hurt and even when your dying. Even cats know. There was a person in the hospital and she was fixing to die and a cat jumped on her bed and curled up next to her the minute she died. When I broke my shoulder, my dogs were easy with me (which before they never were) and they never jumped on me either. When I was sick one time Buddy curled up next to me and slept by me the whole day and didn't even get up. Dogs can smell out cancer to.
