Please do not be alarmed that your baby pit will attack just because other pits have attacked your other dog. We have a golden retriever that was 3 when we received our pit, Sky. Sky was 6-7 months old at the time. Our youngest daughter was an infant at the time. Sky has shown nothing but love toward our other dog, our children, and ourselves. She often tries to sleep with our children! So please, do not hesitate to keep your pit. With the right socializing and training it should be fine.

Usually dogs brought up together and who live together a long time are compatible. Just because your dog was attacked by Pit Bulls it doesn't mean your own Pit Bull will attack your dog too. It's never wise to make blanket generalizations based on breeds, no matter what the behavior in question is. That said, by having a Pit Bull you need to always be aware that as they mature they *can* become dog aggressive. Mostly it depends on socialization but there is a genetic component in there somewhere. The safest thing you could do is pay close attention to your dogs' body language and start to identify your dogs' comfort zones or anything that sets them off. The most common causes of fights are food, toys, and people (attention). As your Pit Bull grows to be an adult it might be wise to keep your dogs separate while no one is home so that nothing happens while you are gone and unable to break up a potential fight. Don't give up on your puppy just because of his breed, but be aware.

if you go to charley's page you will see pics of him with his cat and his sister the beagle. i never had a problem with him and any other animals i brought into the house. it's all up to the owner and how the dog is trained. Charley doesn't have a mean streak in his body. if your dog is already playing with the cat, i dont think you'll have a problem. the lab on the other hand may be the untrusting and aggressive one since he was the one that was attacked. your are playing it smart by introducing them slowly and under supervision

The Pits that attacked your dog were most likely not raised right or socialized with other dogs. They may not have even been Pit Bulls, as there are 25 different breeds that are commonly mistaken for Pit Bulls. Don't worry about your Pit Bull puppy, raise him right, socialize him with lots of dogs, train him consistently, and he will grow up to a great dog. If you are worried that the Lab might hurt him, then just watch them closely. If the Lab starts attacking him - actually attacking him, it's okay if he growls at him to make the puppy stop doing something - then separate them for a while. After a while, put one of the dogs in a room and let them meet each other through the door or have them both in two crates and let them meet each other that way. I feel sorry for those Pitties who attacked your Lab, those poor dogs must have very irresponsible owners.
