What type of things should I ask the facility about puppy day care ?
What are the pro's and con's of puppy day care?
Definitely visit the facility unannounced and ask if you can take a tour RIGHT THEN. Any place that is not happy to show a potential customer around with a special appointment is a facility I would be very suspicious of. During the visit, take your time looking around and taking in the sights, sounds, and smells.
Does the place reek of dog pee / poop / smell? Is it dirty? Are there piles of poop that haven't been cleaned up? Is there water for the dogs? How are the dogs supervised? How are they grouped - are there big dogs and small dogs together? Dogs of different ages together? Are there any trainers? Any vet techs on staff? What is their emergency plan? What vet clinic do they work with? Can they provide references?
Personally, I would not place a very young puppy in day care, just because of the amount of things that can go wrong and make an impact on your pup and his later life. Socialized adult dogs do great in day care, but I would not place a pup in a cage free day care.

BE CAREFUL! Visit the facility unannounced. Ask if dogs are supervised when with others. Ask if they allow unaltered dogs in with altered dogs. Ask if they allow large breeds in with small breeds. Seniors in with younger dogs?
Of course, all vaccinations are mandatory. I have seen bad things in well known chains...WITH supervisors IN the play area...dogs being harrassed and even nipped by other dogs.
BE CAREFUL.

Deogie goes to daycare and he loves it. This is how his daycare works. When I decided to send him, I visited the daycare and they welcomed it. Deogies first day was a bit of a long progress but in the end was worth it. They have a huge fenced in area of the play park outside and they brought one dog at a time to introduce to Deogie just so he wasn't overwhelmed. The dogs are always supervised and rough play is never allowed. They have nap time at 1 to 2, all dogs have separate dog runs for this time, this is when the workers have their lunch. All dogs must be spayed or neutred at 6 months to continue going. Obviously all shots must be up to date. Accidents do happen, dogs will be dogs but if any dog is aggressive he/she will not be allowed back. I can't think of a single con...the money maybe lol. The pros..it socializes your dog, it allows your dog just to be a dog, you don't have to feel quilty or worry about your dog being at home and they have a great time.
