I am considering getting one, and would like full-details on what it is like to live with this breed, an health issues or concerns or quirky habits they may have and what you love most about your dog and why.
I want to get a detailed look into the life with CKCS from the people they own. :P
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are ideal lap dogs from what I know. However, just like any dog, they like to play with balls and frisbees and what not. I would try not to take them for more than a 20-30 minute walk when your area is it's warmest during summer. I have heard many stories about heatstroke, very much resulting on the CKCS. They have kind of feathery hair around their feet, which I think is why they may also be very suseptible to frostbite. Paw mail me if you need anything else. Thanks! Hope this helps!
Lots of Licks,

I've heard wonderful things about them.
However, they are a breed with many potentially severe health issues, the main one being Syringomyelia -- www.cavalierhealth.org
If you are looking for a breeder and they do not screen for this, run FAST in the other direction.

This is a breed with a very small genetic pool so be very scrupulous when locating a breeder. That person advertising in your local Classifieds? Probably not someone to go with. Go to the breed club's website and start there. www.ckcsc.org

Wow, I could write a book. Check out Nibbles page for his "quirks" and why I love him. Cavaliers are very loving and friendly. They get along great with people and other animals. Nibbles is very gentle and naturally good with older people and young children. The breed does have health issues including heart problems so finding a good breeder is very important. The other poster is correct about not walking them in heat. They are indoor dogs not meant to be outside all day. They also need company and would not do well being alone all day. They have a good chase instinct which makes a great game of catch but they can not be trusted off leash. Nibbles does shed and must be combed daily. Otherwise they need minimal grooming. Cavliers live to please and are easy to train. Please p-mail me if you have any other questions. I did a lot of research into the breed and for me the Cavlier is the perfect dog.

I am not a "dog person" by any means. I think dogs are adorable from a distance, but I was raised with cats. Taking care of a dog is a lot more stress relative to my experiences. That being said, I still wanted to give it a try. My first little darling tri-color Cav was, and still is, a close competitor for the love and attention I give my Siamese cat. I would definitely define the breed as a good "first dog." I now have three of them. My first little girl is extremely attached to me, she is literally like a live, smiley (yes, she really can smile!) stuffed animal. She loves to play, but she will NEVER chose play over my lap, no matter how hyper at the moment. The second one is a Male, he is generally good mannered, but more interested in play than lap time. The third one is not yet a year old and she is most interested in paling around with the boy. Like with any breed, attachment to a human is stronger when there aren't other canine pals around. Feel free to contact me for more! :)
