Well, I don't think ants would live on your dog. They aren't parasites.

However, what you probably found was a fire ant. They use their gripper to latch on to the animal and then use their stinger to sting the person or animal in a circle. Its very painful and they leave bad welts.

Chibi and I walked straight through a fire ant hill and I had to pick those suckers off her. That was about 2 weeks ago and I still have marks where they stung me.

Google fire ant and find out if they might be local to your area.

the ant might have been just a coincidence.
I would say take the dog to the vet to have the sore evaluated, it could be many things from a hot spot to mites, they can tell what it is maybe by justing looking or a skin scrap and get your dog on to the road of recovery.
So the vet is your answer

LOL, no. Ants may crawl on dogs sometimes, but they never live on or in them. Probably an ant that crawled on him and got lost when he walked away.
