Can a dog die from sadness from its brother/sister dieing? Answers at Dogster Answers.

When my older bulldog died at 15yrs. my female at 14yrs stopped eating, if you will take pieces of food and put them in your mouth then into theirs, they will begin , to eat then move onto spoon feeding, I know this sounds weird but the mother dogs in the wild regurgitate for their puppies, same principal for the greiving dog eventually you will be able to let them eat on their own.

I don't know if they can die, but they can sure go into intense mourning. I know of a situation where this person had two dogs, best friends, and one died. The other was absolutely lost. Wouldn't eat, wouldn't play, wouldn't do anything. When I saw him, he was emaciated. Complete skin and bones from not eating for a week or two. His dad said he tried coaxing him with all of his favorite foods, but the dog would have none of it. It broke my heart to no end. Well, I don't know if it took new energy in the dogs life (me) or time, but the dog finally ate the day after I saw him. Yea!! When I hear people say that dogs don't feel anything when one of their buddies die, I get so pissed. Dogs mourn and they get depressed. And just like a human who suffers from depression, they lose their appetite and their will to participate in much. I think bringing new things (not necessarily a new dog) into the depressed dogs life can help. Have people visit, go walking in different places, etc.

Yes they can! But, not from sadness they stop eating and drinking from depression and Sadness and eventually die! Trust me, my grandma's cat died after my grandma died!
