Broken radius and ulna in 3 YO hairless chinese crested, what to do when it seems the vet is pushing expensive surgery.

My hairless chinese crested broke his front right leg, radius and ulna clean through, but not through the skin and the uber expensive ER Vet suggests surgery (I am taking him to my regular vet tomorrow). Is surgery a must or is splinting and immobilizing for 6-8 weeks sufficient? Regardless he will have to be crated for 6-8 weeks. Thanks! Scooter's Mom

On dogs like a crested and the italiam greyhound i think he may be right about the surgery from what i have heard in the past. But then again i am not a vet so let them make the call on this one. I wish you the best and please keep me posted on how he turns out

Your regular vet will make a recommendation. I'd listen.
