I am moving into a 3rd floor apartment that doesn't have a fire escape. I have one of those ladders that you can throw over the window so i can climb down.. do they make any kind of apparatus I can carry my dog down in? he is about 60 lbs and I know if i needed to I can carry him. I know my safety is the priority but if i can, i would like to help my dog. does anyone have any suggestions? ive tried looking online and i cant find any info...

Remember to practice getting your dog into the harness, it will be much easier just in case it is needed.
Have a good one.

First, I would like to commend you for thinking about fire safety not only for yourself, but your dog as well. The best thing is to have a plan of action. I think the first poster had a really terrific idea with the dog harness. Hopefully it is affordable in your situation. If not, shop around and if all else fails, see if you can make your own harness. The thought occurred to me that perhaps you might want to look into installing a pulley system by your window. I bet you could get an inexpensive pulley that could handle 60 lbs. at your local hardware store. Also, you need to make sure you have enough rope to lower your beloved boy down! If a pulley system won't work because of building design, etc.; check to see if there is equipment that would more readily allow you to strap your dog to your back. (i.e., either professional rescue equipment or harnesses designed to clip onto seatbelts, that could clip onto a harness you could wear instead.) Just a thought!
