Crateing the dog when you can't watch her, leash her when you can. Gate off carpeted areas if possible. Train the pup to ring a set of bells on the door knob to ask to go out. USE THE SAME DOOR ALL THE TIME!!!
If you are not consistant in everthing the dog will get confused.

Bailey is ONLY nine months old. He's still a baby. Most dogs do not have full control of their bladder till they are around a year old. That means that even when they have figured out where we want them to go (outside) they are still going to have accidents from time to time. They can't help it biologically. Be patient and understand that this is part of getting a puppy and Bailey will be alright. He's so cute. In the meantime Nature's Miracle is an excellent product (all natural, slight citrus scent) to gently remove urine, you just have to to pour it on the spot. Good Luck!!

The vet has ruled out physical problems? We have had an new puppy every year since 1991, and every one was housebroken long before 9 months. It is more difficult with an older puppy that can hold it longer and has established bad habits. It may require extensive walking around outside before it does anything and you can lavish praise on it.

When you are around you need to keep a close eye on the dog. Use closed doors or gates to keep it in the same room as you are, and perhaps as I do, a short chain fastened to the computer desk. If you catch it in the act, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and take it out. When you can't watch it, crate it.

A dog that has not been crated since it was little, may take some work. Start out just putting its toys and treats in the crate. Praise it for going in. Feed it in the crate. This is also an easy way to maintain order at feeding time for more than one dog.
