Back paw will not follow making lose his balance

The toes on the back paw of my 6 years old German Sheppard will not follow when he walks making his nails being used by the asphalt... went to see a vet, took xrays and nothing wrong with the hips... vet says to go for MRI (scan) may be cancer or ACV... a scan is 1400$ minimum... and this is no cure! His temper is great, he eats, wants to play, same as usual except for that back paw which is like if he's loosing balance from the back... When he runs, everything is fine except he runs like a rabbit but he has no problems with the hips... He still stand up on his back paws no problem but loosing his balance... any idea?

I would seek a second opinion from another veterinarian, but an MRI scan may well be what is needed.

Two likely disorders that come to mind based on the description of the symptoms, are degenerative myelopathy (DM) and cauda equina syndrome. Both are not unommon in German Shepherds. Another option would be spondylosis, although that would show on an x-ray of the spine, whereas the other two, being caused by the nerves, would probably require further testing.

Dieta

this could be trama, or nerve damage.
But, I would make sure how serious it is and see if it is fixable.
Then you can wrap the foot with horse tape, it is not sticky and place a bootie over it.
I am sorry he is sick, and I hope you find him a solution.
the unbalance maybe is the sensation of him not being able to feel the back foot:)
