mylo is 9 weeks old. is this to early to start teaching commands to a puppy. (im asking this because all the other dogs i have gotten in the past was at least three months or older.) he can't seem to calm down when i start the training, all he wants to do is play. Thanks to anybody that helps=]
It's a good time to start with Sit and then Down and Stand. Food is a good distracter from normal puppy bouncing.Just use the pups kibble instead of other snacks. He may get upset tummy if you introduce other treats in his diet right now.
Teach sit by holding a piece of food right in front of his nose and lift up his butt will naturally hit the ground as it does then say sit and give the treat when his butt is completely on the floor. At this age do not do any forcing of his butt(no pushing down on his butt). He will pick it up fairly fast if you so it just before feeding time.once he starts to sit on his own then you can add the down by putting the food nugget in front of his nose and do the motion of down by moving the piece of food right to the ground and be patient it will take a bit longer for this command.Only do the motion of down 2-3 times then just put your hand on his back to show him what you mean do not push down just take the food and motion the down he will get it.Have fun

I think he is a little young, but it's a great time to start with just the basics. I would start with about 5 minutes a day just on one command.
It's also a good time to start introducing him to a brush, again just a few minutes a day goes a long way on a young puppy. But he needs to learn what it is so you can groom him when he gets older.
It is too early to start obedience classes, he should be fully vacinated before he starts those.
Just be patient! All puppies have that endless, wonderful, energy to play!

Make the training sessions short 'n' sweet, and make playing a reward. For example, tell the puppy to sit. Then push on her bottom (or lure her into sit with a treat, discourage jumping up), reward her with wild praise, a toy, and a play session. Puppies her age have a short attention span.

It's not too early, it's just going to take a little more time. Be patient. Work on one command at a time until he gets it and then reward him. When he gets one down, move to the next one. Continue with the treats when he gets it right, so that he can register sit=treat.

I think you can start the basics with Mylo (who is absolutely ADORABLE!), but like everyone else has said, limit the time. Puppies don't have long attention spans so a long session is just going to frustrate both of you.

No matter what you're trying to teach your dog, from housetraining to "heel," there are a few basic guidelines that will make the process easier:
