After my dogs first heat she has a bad odor,A strong rust smell,it's been over a month and still slight discharge &smell
My Dog is a min dauchsund, she will be a year jan, 20th, First heat didn't start till Oct. after a month her heat stopped and she has very bad odor like a strong rust or metal smell.Like a discharge but I don't see anything but the smell is so strong and lingers I have to change clothes, sheets, etc.

Your dog needs to see a vet...Sounds like it could be pyrometra...You need to have her spayed!

Well give her a good bath/shower with a tea tree dog shampoo, be sure to rinse well. Could be odours clinging to fur. Clean teeth well. After bathing/showering if there is an odour after 2 to 3 days see a vet. Also I found synthetic bedding awful, Mum now uses only cotton and pure wool for me. The smell of your dog can also be affected by what you feed her. Chlorophyll is a natural deoderant. Mum puts powdered Spriulina in our dinners, good for nutrients too as well as odours. Mum finds all these things effect the way I smell. As a healthy human if you smell her and it doesn't smell right trust your instincts, get a vet to check it out.
