A friend of mine adopted Bichon mix. They keep him in a crate for about 10 hrs and toilets in the crate what do they do

I have tried to explain to her that it is entirely to long for him to be in the crate. Any suggestions..I would greatly appreciate them...

They simply must find a way to give him a break. Even so, it still may take a long time to reverse the damage. If they can't make it back, they could try to find a neighbor or professional dog walker. If it is more than 3 months old, it could be left at a doggy day care.

They can either deal with it & teach the dog that it's easier to go in the crate than to hold it or find a way to get him out to potty far sooner than 10 hrs...That is unrealistic to expect especially in a small dog!!

Dieta

offer the friend to walk her dog.
Or find some dog walking brochures to send her.
That way you are suggesting positives and also by sending the brochures in the mail she can read them and you don't have to say they are from you.
that is the only things I can think of.

Frankly, this is neglect, bordering on abuse. A dog cannot be expected to sit or lay in a crate for 10 hours on end. Depending on his age, it's not even possible for some dogs to hold it for ten hours.

Please try and explain to them, perhaps in less blunt terms that if they have a dog, they need to take responsiblity for him and that keeping him locked in a small crate for ten hours is cruel.

Honestly, if they need their dog to be locked in a crate for 10 hours a day, they should not own the dog. They should consider finding a home that has more time to take care of the dog properly. That kind of treatment is just cruel.
